Search engines index a website based on the content on the pages.  To be specific – “content” means the words on each page NOT including text that is buried in Flash animations, videos, or graphics.  Some SEO companies would have you believe that including content that is chock full of searchable terms, known as key word stuffing, is the most effective approach.  It’s not.

Since your website exists for people to read, the content must be intelligible, too.  Visitors to the site will leave quickly if the content is not compelling.  Your site’s purpose should be clear, explanations should be straight-forward, and the key words should be used when they apply to the topic at hand.
